Swipe Right to Engage Voters?

The Honolulu Civil Beat reported on a Hawaii Senate candidate, Greggor Ilagan, who made himself available for one-on-one voter meetups via Tinder:

“This year, I am running for State Senate. I bet we can find common ground on issues and make a positive impact around us. Swipe right and let’s get to know each other.”

Tinder is a dating app through and through, not a conventional social media platform. I'm not surprised Iligan's pioneering alternative use was short-lived, but I anticipate the earned media coverage he receives for it will be worth the risk.

I would recommend custom-purpose political social networks - like Louisiana brainchild Freagle - as well as mass-market stalwarts like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even Snapchat as more appropriate matchmakers for candidates and prospective voters.
